Craig Kelly had a huge impact on Jonaven at a very young age influencing his snowboarding to this day. We’re sharing a quote that Kelly wrote in 2000 that Jonaven says is worth more to him than any prize, trophy or accolade in snowboarding ever could be.
Two years ago, I had the interesting pleasure of working with Banff's Jonaven Moore on a Warren Miller shoot at Island Lake Lodge. Above one particularly long couloir with a virtually impassable peppery-rock entrance, Jonaven radioed down to the cameraman and me that he was dropping in. We couldn't see a way through the couloir's entrance and tried to talk him out of it. He responded with a quick, "I am dropping, so roll the camera if you want to get it." Seconds later he straight-lined the entrance and somehow levitated through the pepper, made a quick adjustment to the fall-line, and matched down the chute at about 60mph. He finally bled off his speed as he passed us.
Jonaven charges big terrain with such fresh style and exuberance that you can't help but get excited to ride with him. It's time for a changing of the guard in big-mountain freeriding, and it makes me feel proud to see the torch passed on to someone like Jonaven. - Craig Kelly, Snowboard Life Magazine
