We hear you! We know not every rider wants a stiff broad sword of a snowboard. There’s a ton of riders out there that like a slightly softer flexing all-mountain board that can still handle fully pinned shredding in the powder, on piste or in the park.

For these pillow poppin’ freestylin freeriders, we are very proud to present the new and improved 2017 Jones Explorer. Since it’s debut in 2016, the Explorer solid and splitboard have crushed all performance perceptions associated with more affordable freeride boards. The Explorer packs a serious punch for the price and for 2017 we’ve refined it even further by tweaking the flex and adding Spoon 1.0 base contours in the nose and tail (solid only).

Transworld Snowboard Mag took notice of the new 2017 Explorer too. The Explorer won a coveted "Good Wood" award as one of the best all-mountain shred sticks out there!

The Good Wood testers recognized the same versatile performance we know and love about the Explorer. This board can rip, rail or jump down the mountain.

“The Explorer was like an attack destroyer cruising the high seas,” one Good Wood tester claimed. Another added, “It had the bruteness to go all over and stomp landings, and the agility of a smaller ship to outmaneuver a foe.”

That about nails it. The Explorer is a true battleship for the playful freerider. It’s versatility comes from it’s flex pattern - stiff nose and tail but a friendly flex between the feet. The Good Wood testers also noticed that.

It has a well-balanced flex pattern, very able at all speeds. Forgiving, but ready and wants to rail and board wicked hard,” is how one Good Wood tester described it.

Jones team rider Taylor Carlton loves the Explorer. He rides the solid and the split. Taylor mixes it up between the park and powder like a boss and the Explorer delivers the perfect balance of pop and stability for him to stomp in any terrain.

Board tester extraordinaire Avran LeFeber from Angry Snowboarder echoed Taylor’s feelings. Here’s what Avran found out testing the Explorer:

"Load it up and boost," said Avran. "I sent my normal first side hit of the day three times as far as I have with any other board. I attribute this to the weight of the board coupled with the camber profile and flex. This board can boost with the greatest of ease."

Like most models in the Jones quiver, one of the rad things about the Explorer is that it comes in a solid and split version. This means if you get both versions, you can dial in riding the same board in bounds or outta bounds. The Explorer Splitboard is also not your average split. For one, it’s significantly less expensive than most other splits. Don’t mistake the lower price for lower quality though. We crammed every high end feature we could into the Explorer Splitboard including a sintered base, ECO-plastic topsheet and inner + outer edge mellow-magne traction.

The review wizards at Outdoor Gear Lab noticed how much bang for your buck the Explorer Splitboard offered. They awarded the Explorer their ’Best Buy’ award. Here’s what they had to say about it:

"The Explorer deserves more attention than it has received," said Dave Reichel from Outdoor Gear Lab. "In a brand of boards understandably associated with big mountain prowess, this split is much more of a freestyle ride. If you enjoy catching air, like a softer flexing board, and don’t mind saving some coin, this split would make a great choice. It’s a couple hundred dollars cheaper than the Solution or Hovercraft, making it one of the cheapest splitboards available. Based on our time testing this splitboard, overlooking it would be a mistake. It is a mighty fun and worthy ride."
