2017 Season Highlight:
One of the highlights of last season was definitely camping in the Argentiere Basin in May. We set a base camp on the glacier after the Grands Montets lift closed and had the entire basin just to ourselves. The peaks were plastered with fresh snow and Sam Favret and I got the chance to ride two big lines in great conditions on the North side before the storm rolled in. Strong winds followed by high temperatures forced us to go back to the valley earlier than planed but it was a great short expedition filled with friendship, magic colors and powder turns!
Favorite Jones Boards:
One year ago I would have said Flagship and Solution without hesitation. Now the Ultra Mountain Twin and Aviator Split are becoming my favorite.
How do you keep calm and confident when riding exposed lines?
I think it is just the habit of being in the mountains but also guiding some people up there obliges you to stay calm and to keep the control of the situation... For the confidence it is always nice to have another snowboarder riding with you with whom you can talk about conditions and snow quality... and that you can send first when conditions are becoming tricky :-)
Why are the mountains in Chamonix so special for snowboarding?
Chamonix is special because you can take the first lift in the morning, have the best run of your life on some of the steepest slopes in the world and be back in the valley for a beer in the late afternoon.
What is one important lesson every beginner splitboarder should learn?
Mistakes are part of the progression as long as you learn something from them, as long as they don t become the last one...
What are your goals for the 2017 season?
Ride steep virgin terrain in the Alps and forget everything about goofy and regular stance.
