He done, done, done it again! With a commanding win at the Xtreme Verbier 2018 on April 1st, Sammy Luebke clinched an unprecedented third consecutive Freeride World Tour overall title and Xtreme Verbier victory!
Sammy is the first athlete in the history of the Freeride World Tour to pull off the world title three-peat. This was the narrowest margin Sammy has won the title by (only 65 out of 8425 points) and it was a stunning comeback for him after having nursed a knee injury through the first two contests. The bum knee forced him to throttle back and ride mellow lines at the Hakuba and Golden contests. He was strong again by the third contest and began to climb the rankings with a win in Andorra and a respectable fifth in Fieberbrunn. Sammy needed to win the Xtreme Verbier to clinch the title and that he did by charging a ridiculously fast line through the steepest section of the infamous Bec des Rosses on his Ultra Mountain Twin.
