Jones backcountry packs are available in multiple volume sizes - 18L, 24L, 30L, 35L and 45L. The Jones MINIMALIST 35L + 45L pack is also available in two torso sizes. Read on for info on how to choose a pack that fits you and your riding demands.
The Jones Minimalist pack is a featherweight yet full featured backcountry snowboarding pack designed for all-day touring and technical alpine ascents. The simple top load design and tech fabrics save critical weight but the dual top-lid pockets, hip pockets, axe loops and helmet holder make it easy to organize gear.
The Minimalist comes in two volumes, 35L and 45L, plus two torso sizes for each volume, S/M and M/L.
The first step in choosing a Minimalist pack is to determine your size by measuring your torso. Measure your torso length from your C7 vertebra to the top of your hip shelf using a flexible tape measure.
Minimalist 35/45L S/M: 15-19 in (38-48 cm)
Minimalist 35/45L M/L: 19-22 in (48-56 cm)
NOTE: Taller people usually have longer torsos BUT, just like foot size, torso size is not always relative to height. Some short people have long torsos and would ideally use the M/L pack.
You can also choose a torso size without measuring by trying on the packs. The hip belt should line up evenly with your hip bones. If belt rests above/below hips, choose other size.
Choosing a volume size is the next step. The Minimalist 35L and 45L have all the same features. The main pocket on the 45L is just a touch bigger than the 35L. Both packs are plenty big to hold all the necessary gear for a technical day mission but the 45L can better handle quick overnight missions or a short hut trip.
The Jones DEEPER 18L, FURTHER 24L and HIGHER 30L + 30LRAS packs come in one size. They are designed to fit any size rider with a 16-20 in (40-52 cm) torso length and a 26-40 in (66-100 cm) waist width.
The only decision you need to make is to choose the pack volume size that fits your riding and backcountry touring demands.
The 18L pack is the perfect size for the bare essentials - avy tools, water, snacks and a layer - and it’s streamlined profile keeps your center of gravity tight. Rugged side and vertical board carry straps lock the board to your back when bootpacking and a stowable helmet holder keeps you helmet secure on the skin track.
The FURTHER 24L is the perfect mid-size backcountry pack offering enough volume to hold everything you need for a basic splitboard tour. A separate avy tools pocket keeps your safety system close and when it comes time to bootpack, side and vertical board carry straps plus side ski-carry straps allow multiple options for ferrying the load.
The 30L is the perfect pack for big objectives when you gotta bring the full kit. It’s bigger in the right spots as a separate avy tool pocket, dual hip pockets and a back panel zipper to the main compartment provide ample storage and easy access to your gear. Despite the larger volume, the 30L pack is efficiently designed and the thermo-molded back panel and shoulder straps provide a comfortable, ergonomic fit.
HIGHER 30L RAS
Jeremy Jones designed the 30L RAS to be his ultimate backcountry snowboarding pack. It has all the features of the 30L pack plus the pockets that hold the Snowpulse R.A.S. removable airbag system. The R.A.S. system allows you to use the pack with or without the airbag installed and utilizes compressed air instead of nitrogen so you can deploy the bag before a plane trip and then easily refill the canister at your destination (North American Canister Only)
