Team Powder Report - February 2014
Old Man Winter stepped on the gas pedal the past month! Solid storms pummeled most mountain regions of the world in February. The Jones team was spread far and wide lapping up the fresh tracks. Here’s a collection of photos from their travels:
BOOM! Forrest Shearer detonates a turn on a mid-month bluebird pow in the Wasatch, Utah. Photo - @andrew_miller
Crested Butte, Colorado got dumped on. Gareth Van Dyk aka @oldcbpro caught more than a few hometown faceshots.
After a nearly two month drought, the California Sierra finally had a fat storm push through. Allison Lightcap blasted overhead turns in the Lake Tahoe backcountry mid-month. Photo - @sethlightcap
The same storms that hit the Sierra crushed Central Nevada. Chris Ondercin ripped a classic line in the Ruby Mountains on his Hovercraft.
The Pac NW also came back alive after a dry January. Ryland Bell found killer pow pillows in Washington.
Italy is still going off. Liz Daley got it good on the Hellbroner, Mt. Blanc. Photo - @marcdiamond
Ralph Backstrom has been lapping it up in Italy too. The Aosta valley delivered fresh tracks nearly all month for Ralph.
Ralph’s group set off this avalanche in Italy on a moderate avy danger day. Good example of the dangers of ’spooky moderate’ when persistent weak layers are lurking in the snowpack. No one was caught in the slide.
Japan is still leading the league for most dumpage this winter. It snowed all month…again. Alex Yoder returned to Japan in February for another round of soul surfing and pillow popping.
Chris Christensen scored quintessential conditions in Japan as well this month - blower and bottomless. Photo - @tarotamai
Switzerland got pounded. Miikka Hast found fresh tracks and faceshots in Engadin. Photo - @daviddoom
And the Powder Hole of the Month award goes to…Jackson Hole! Jackson got crushed in February. But of course, Rob Kingwill took full advantage. Photo - @kyehalpin
Swell was pounding so hard in Wyoming…Jeremy Jones and Forrest Shearer busted out the new secret weapons. Photo - @andrew_miller
