Who says you gotta be strapped in to shred? The Mountain Surfer is an all-wood 4’ 6” (139cm) powder board that needs no traditional bindings. For those backyard stashes, runs behind the hut or however high you feel like hiking, the Mountain Surfer delivers step-on and shred powder surfing fun anywhere you can find it. The Mountain Surfer features contoured ‘binding hooks’ that are positioned at the outside edges of your normal riding stance. Pushing your boots into the hooks improves board control and helps keep the board locked to your feet as you slash and ollie. The bindings hooks can be set at two different stance widths and the front hook allows for a 15 degree goofy or regular positive stance angle. When you’re ready to ditch the “training wheels” the hooks are also easily removable. The design roots of the Mountain Surfer are true to it’s name as the 3D-Surf Rocker profile was hand-shaped by renowned San Diego, Calif. surfboard shaper Chris Christenson. Perfect for kids, first-time riders and experts alike, the Mountain Surfer is ready to shred in the backyard peelers or the big mountain barrels. Comes complete with a leash for when you don’t stick the drop-in.
Custom tip/tail rocker profile designed by surf shaper Chris Christenson for the Mountain Surfer and Storm Chaser. The nose rocker starts just inside of the front inserts and the tail rocker starts just at the back inserts. When you weight the tail of the board the nose ramps up out of the snow for insane float on the deepest days.
These subtle rocker contours match a Christenson surfboard rocker profile.
The Mountain Surfer features three-dimensional base contours. The nose is spooned with a wide rounded bevel. The spoon nose gives the board an easy entry point into the snow for fast turn initiation and allows for smooth rocking turns on either side without hooking.
The Mountain Surfer features removable ’binding hooks’ that can be positioned at the outside edges of your normal riding stance. The hooks can be set at two different stance widths and the front hook allows for a 15 degree goofy or regular positive stance angle. Pushing your boots into the hooks improves board control and helps keep the board locked to your feet as you slash and ollie. The hooks also open up the range of snow conditions you can surf. Without the hooks it is challenging to pow surf in anything but deep blower snow. Hooks make it possible to surf with control in just about any amount of soft snow. But no worries if you want to surf hook-less, the hooks are easily removable.
The tail of the Mountain Surfer has a concave channel beveled down the center of the board. This ’single hull’ design reduces drag and improves glide by pushing loose snow out the back. The fastest surfboards in the world use these same bottom contours.
Chris Christenson shaped the first prototype of the Mountain Surfer out of foam just like a surfboard. He matched the rocker profile and bottom contours of his fastest surf design with a trim and powerful shape that maximized float. Once he had an understanding of the ideal board dimensions, he went on to hand shape the next prototype Mountain Surfer out of laminated wood.
Surfboards and snowboards share more than just a riding stance. Both of these sideways sliding pursuits demand an ultra fast gliding board that allows e ortless, friction free movement through the water or snow. More glide equals more speed and more options for riding creativity.
To blend the best of surfboard technology with snowboard technology, we forged a design partnership with renowned San Diego surfboard shaper Chris Christenson. Chris is one of the most diverse surf shapers in the world and makes everything from contest boards to longboards and record breaking big
The Mountain Surfer, Storm Chaser and Storm Chaser Split are the first o spring of our collaboration with Chris. All three of these hand shaped, surf-inspired boards feature the subtleties and contours of Chris’ fastest surf shapes including a Surf Rocker Profile, Spoon Nose and Speed Channel Tail.
To no surprise, these boards are the fastest gliding boards in the Jones quiver.
