Great backpack for Shralpinism!
Compact but big enough to fit splitboarding and mountaineering equipment.
Super durable and many options for carrying a splitboard, many well placed smaller compartiments/pockets as well!

Not as strong as the my old 32L Jones pack. Doesn't hold weight well at all. Would recommend the 25L instead if you're going for half day tours or less. For full day, look elsewhere.

There made some great improvements over the last iteration of the backpack:
- The eternal winter issue of where to store your water bottle has a smart solution: an unzipped side pocket which can store thinner water bottles (i.e. a 0.5L Nalgene or thinner 1L bottle). May still need a coozie or sock on your water bottle to prevent freezing (thinner water bottles tend to freeze easier).

- The annoying inner strap has now been replaced by daisy chains on both straps! Great for carabining gear like your radio, inreach/sos device, etc. This should be a nice improvement in strap comfort. The last ones had to hang out, which was kind of awkward.

- The goggle pocket has been doubled (or tripled?) in size. It now can be used to fit far more than just your goggles, which is lovely addition. I always find myself storing smaller items in there, so this is great!

- A 2nd gear loop under the left hip belt pocket! Jones packs are one of the few on the market doing this... it's genius and I'm glad they added a 2nd one. So many other manufacturers only have a gear loop or a hip belt pocket, not both.

Cons:
- Where in the actual f**k is the frame? This is supposed to be a 32L splitboard pack meant for technical ascents/descents. A pack without a frame cannot be used to carry a snowboard/boots over a typical long day mission... the fatigue would be alarming. This pack is essentially a winter-only pack. It's a great pack, but Jones was a leader in providing one of the top (if not THE TOP) snowboarding mountaineering packs with their last version of the 32L (pre-2024 versions). Now, it's relegated to winter missions only. Spring is out. Unbelievably disappointed, and frankly not sure why they would churn out a pack that can't carry weight. If you don't climb big lines and stay under 35 degrees, this pack will be great. But if your snow climbing anything, it's hard to imagine Jones designing a pack that can't carry weight over hours of climbing, especially with all that their riders do on film. Why Jones, why...

It’s a great and spacious pack for day trips, really comfy on the way down! A bit tight for overnight trips if you need to carry sleeping bag and food but can be done.
Running on the “heavy” side of 32L backpacks when it’s empty, but nothing crazy.

Really like this pack. Fit and function is great for my needs. The tool pocket has extra room for skins, crampons, etc. I can go on about the good because it’s a great pack. So here’s a few not so good. The helmet holder is definitely oversized. I could fit a full face in that thing. My helmet has fallen out. Then the other would be I’d like the back to be a full clam shell opening. That’s just preference. So if you’re looking for a pack to hit your local backcountry stash or a larger objective I highly recommend the 32L. I have used a ton of different brands of packs over the last 20 plus years and I’ll be using this one for quite some time.

Well thought out pack. I got the 32 L and have used on 4 outings now. 2 split rides, 2 board carries rides.
Good organization for snow tools
Loved having access from back panel while board was still strapped to back of pack.

I do wish the bottom side compression straps were independent of main bottom back strap. Also would like additional vertical straps for board carrying horizontal for while riding on a snowmobile.

I was able to pack extra down layers, a large lunch, camera equipment, avy gear ,first aid, spare Sox, gloves, snow saw and a few other misc items no problem.
All in all this seems to be a solid pack and it's at fair competitive price. I'm am very pleased.

Love the durability of the material.
The functional pockets make it easy to pack gear in an easy to find way.
Couldn't ask for a better pack to take adventuring in the backcountry!

Only thing I would add is some reinforced paneling on shovel/probe pocket. I know you’re not supposed mix safety gear and your regular gear, but my crampons feel like they’re gonna tear a hole through the pocket.

Excellent pack! My only suggestion would be to add a way to integrate a radio into the design (radio pouch, interior cable run in strap opposite of water strap, area to clip radio to strap, etc.)

I spent months analyzing and sorting thru backcountry bags and the Jones Dscnt 32L hits virtually every checkbox - excellent design/layout, comfortable and not boxy, performs. You can tell this bag was designed for backcountry usage, not just features to say they have them. 32L is plenty of room for carrying food, layers, random gear for both inbounds and day tours. Separate avy compartment is well designed, vertical and side carry (skis, split, poles) are great but I will nitpick that I wish it had a horizontal board carry option. The chart above on "recommended ways to carry" shows how versatile this bag can be. An area it's oddly superior is 2 spots to carry your helmet (or other gear) and the webbing can be tucked under and out of the way. Have ridden many days stashing this bag inbounds which would be worth it alone, but more importantly when I needed to get into my avy compartment this bag performed as expected. Zippers didn't get stuck, not equipment snagged, the organizational design made it a thoughtless process to quickly start SAR. Kudos to Jones for adding some avy safety training inside the pack itself

Excellent zipper and compartment layout, lens/google compartment hip/waist strap and pouch placement, sternum strap whistle, plus reminder on avalanche emergency protocol. Internal frame and pack size made this the perfect day pack for me. I snowboard and ski and this pack let's me strap both on properly.

I used this bag so far for a ice climbing ascent on Mt Washington Tuckerman Ravine Trail.
Well balanced very Minimalistic bag that carry's everything you need and nothing you don't.
I was in pretty good freezing rain above Tree line and pouring rain below tree line. The bag did soak through and not sure if the back access panel also let some Moisture through. Overall all bag is bomber. If I could add or change one thing it would be color coded zipper pulls to identify which pocket is which or at least make the Avalanche pocket a red zipper it can be confusing especially if in an actual need of a rescue attempt. Every second matters. And oh the two position Helmet carry is the best thing ever. No one else does that. Jones rocks
