Details

Shape & profile

A snowboard's outline defines many of its characteristics, from how it turns or floats in powder to its performance riding switch. Shape affects everything from the width and taper of the nose and tail, to the position of the stance relative to the board's center.

Shape image

[Shape]

Volume-Shifted Directional

A directional shape with volume-shifted dimensions, creating a wider, shorter outline that moves more surface area to the nose for incredible float in powder, while keeping the board nimble and easy to maneuver. Riders can significantly downsize with a volume-shifted board without sacrificing float or stability.

[Pr0file]

Float CamRock

Hybrid freeride profile for a great balance of powder and piste performance, featuring a long nose rocker and fully extended tail camber. This combination delivers incredible float in deep snow, while generating drive and grip in the tail to rail carves on piste.

[Tracti0n_tech]

High Traction Tech

High Traction Tech features three bumps per edge (front binding, board center, back binding). The middle bump is bigger than the outside bumps for better grip and control.

[Taper]

High Tapered

Our most accentuated taper, reserved for powder-focused shapes where float and maneuverability in deep snow are the priority. The wider nose plows through soft snow while the narrower tail sinks naturally. Any shape with more than 15mm of taper between the nose and tail.

[Shape_details]

Speed Hull

The Speed Hull in the tail reduces friction as snow passes through the tail of the board, improving glide and maneuverability under the back foot. Unique to the Hovercraft 2.0 snowboard and splitboard.

3D Contour Base

Shape image

Surf-inspired shaping for next-level performance.

Inspired by the rounded bottom contours of surfboards, 3D Contour Bases are designed to make every run smoother and every turn more effortless by reducing the drag of the board tips. 3D Contour Bases enhance glide and improve float, helping you ride faster and with better flow. Learn more

[3d_pr0file]

High 3D Contour Base

Freeride focused 3D Contour Base featuring 7mm of spoon bevel in the nose and 0-7mm of spoon bevel in the tail. Spoon bevel starts just before the contact points.

How it works

Riding flat
Riding flat

When riding flat, the spoon bevel on the edges is not engaged, but it does help smoothly deflect snow away from the nose of the board.

Turn initiation
Turn initiation

As you begin to make a turn, the spoon bevel helps you smoothly roll the board on to your egde with less friction and edge drag.

Mid turn
Mid turn

In the middle of a turn, camber and Traction Tech keep you locked onto your egde in the center of the board while the spoon bevel reduces the "plow effect" of your nose and tail edges.

I'm stuck with the Hovercraft from 2014

I'm stuck with the Hovercraft from 2014 and can't find better snowboard/splitboard.
It's so universal + you can ride icy slips and puffy powder all in one

Hi there. Thank you for your review. Totally get that! The Hovercraft really is one of those boards that’s hard to replace. Its shape and design make it incredibly versatile — the big floaty nose and directional rocker help it glide effortlessly in powder, while features like Traction Tech give it solid edge grip when things get icy. It’s tough to find something that feels better :)

So disappointed!

I’m really disappointed with my experience with the Jones Hovercraft splitboard. I had high expectations based on their reputation, but the board I received had serious quality issues right out of the box.

The biggest problem is that the board does not clip together tightly in ride mode. Even with the clips adjusted as tight as possible, the two halves don’t lock up properly. There are visible gaps along the center seam where the sides don’t even touch, which causes each half of the board to flex independently. That completely defeats the purpose of a splitboard and makes it feel unstable and low quality compared to other brands I’ve ridden.

What’s especially frustrating is that the board actually looks like a really fun shape to ride. I was genuinely excited to get it out in the backcountry, but because of the construction issues, I never really got the chance to find out how it performs.

I reached out to Jones about the issue in January, and after a couple of months of going back and forth, I was told I would receive a replacement in March. March came and went, and now in April I’m being told they only have “B-grade” replacements available, so I won’t get a proper replacement until next winter when the 2027 boards come out. That’s essentially an entire lost season, which is unacceptable for a brand at this price point.

On top of that, the warranty process itself is incredibly frustrating. They require you to go through the shop you purchased from as a middleman, which slows everything down significantly and makes communication more complicated than it needs to be. It feels outdated and inefficient.

At this point, I would strongly recommend that anyone considering a Jones splitboard take a close look at the construction before purchasing and seriously consider other brands. There are companies out there producing splitboards that lock together solidly and feel like a single board in ride mode, which is exactly what you should expect.

Overall, between the poor build quality and the drawn-out, inconvenient warranty process, I can’t recommend this board. For something this expensive, I expected much better quality control and customer support.

Turning snowboarders into splitboarders one hovercraft at a time!!!

The hovercraft split makes splitboarding so much fun! I like it in walk mode as much as I do ride mode. For more casual fun splitboarding this is my go to! If I'm turning it up a notch or getting into steep lines, the solution is my choice!

Hi there,

'Turning snowboarders into splitboarders'—we love that mission! It’s awesome that the Hovercraft 2.0 is your go-to for casual fun while the Solution stays ready for the steeps. Glad you’re enjoying it in both walk and ride mode!

Great Splitboard. I’ve been riding the solid and the split in more diverse terrain. Super fun. I’m 5’9”, and 165 pounds. I ride the 156

When you know, you know.

Sometimes you step on a board and after the first run you just know it's the one for you. I've been fortunate to have the opportunity to ride a lot of splitboards for work, and this feeling is rare, but when you feel it, it's best to keep that splitboard around.

For me the Hovercraft 2.0 is that board, and it's what I want under my feet most days of the year. The pow riding experience is fantastic, no secret there, tons of glide and wickedly maneuverable. What I'm constantly amazed by is how amazing the edge hold is for such a wide board. For years I was usually reaching for boards a full centimeter more narrow for the firm days and steeps, but the Hovercraft has no problem holding an edge, and in fact outperforms a ton of other narrower boards.

I've seen a lot of reviews calling this board soft. I think a lot of people saying that are hand flexing it in the shop and never riding it. There's a lot more to board flex than a hand flex, and while yes, it is softer than the 2x4's some companies are putting out in their freeride lines, it totally holds up to high speeds and variable snow. Plus theres the benefit that you can actually flex the board and foot steer it if you need to in tight places. I think the flex is perfect for those of us who actually ride in the backcountry most days of the year and experience all conditions. You can send it when it's good, but you can also slow it down when its bad and its still easy to ride. A total win.

Hi Nick,

We love that feeling, and we’re stoked the Hovercraft 2.0 is the one for you! It’s awesome to hear it’s outperforming narrower boards on firm days while still delivering that fantastic powder float. Appreciate the awesome review :)

Essential Backcountry board

This board is awesome, absolutely slashes pow and the cut out tail makes it float like you wouldnt believe. Still shaped well for hopping on a groomer or in some tight trees as well. I really like how easy the transition is as well, board goes together and comes apart very easily and the skins that come with are incredible.

She was my first love

The I Love Hovercrafting t-shirt exists for a reason. This board is a cult classic. The shape launched surf for Jones and it's been evolving ever since with a full line-up now. The 156 was one of my first splits and I've moved from 152 to carbon and back to the classic 156. It is the 77 Seville Cadillac of the Jones line-up. Love this board still.

The Best in Powder!!!

Hovercraft 2.0 160cm I am 180cm tall and weigh 75kg. I've done 20 tours with the board so far and I'm thrilled! A board that can do anything, it pushes in powder, it is very easy to ride in all other snow conditions. But deep powder is his favorite discipline, so this board takes you to another level! When it gets a little steeper on the climb, you notice that it has a soft flex and therefore doesn't have the best edge hold. But you can do anything with crampons.

Hovercraft

I think is my favorite board at the moment. Also think that floats more than my Flagship 61.
I hope to have the new shape when it comes!

I love the hovercraft. I

I love the hovercraft. I have the solid version. And this is my second split board. The first one lasted me about 5 years. I love this board. It is by far the best. Floats in on groomers is a champ. The only problem I have with. It is the top sheet. It gets messed up pretty easily. Already have a bunch of scratches. But that’s just cosmetic so it still gets five stars. In a perfect world, the split void would have a harder all white top sheet. That way it wouldn’t collect snow on top. The wood grain seems to collect snow like a mofo.

Amazing pow surfing machine, floats

Amazing pow surfing machine, floats like a dream. A lot more versatile than the aesthetic of the board would suggest. Highly recommend.

Best feeling ever on my turns

Ive been using this board for powder tree tuns to steep icy chutes and the i never got dissapointed. It holds the edge for fast turning, in tree runs the board flows and its super easy to move in reduce spaces. Incredible board for chutes and holds the edge on hard Snow conditions.

Hovercraft split 156 - top level boards

After 8 years of Hovercraft 160, this year I decided to replace it and get the shorter one: I took the 156. It is a real gem. both in 50 cm of fresh snow as well as on ice or on spring firn. Agile, Handly, fast and a lot of fun. I am 180 tall and weigh 72 kg. Perfect table.

Atypical shape do it all board

Excellent powder board due to the effortless float, but it’s not only a powder board! I’m blown away by how it performs on hard snow, and couloir riding is fun too because the short tail makes hop turns so much easier!

I first found the nose a bit soft, but the fact that the tail is so short compared to the nose might be why it feels soft if you load the nose too much during a hard charging turn. That being said, I got used to it pretty quickly and now think that the board can handle hard charging terrain really well.

I wanted a board that can do pretty much everything from riding in the trees to riding steep couloirs, and that board is the answer!

Love this split have owned

Love this split have owned the ultra and conventional boards. It is super maneuverable but wish it came in a 163/164 size run as it can lack tail support in ski mode in deep snow. Overall great board for day missions in all terrain.

Two thumbs up

I'm a big fan of the Hovercraft Split. I had a Solution, but have pretty much made this my daily driver. I've ridden it anywhere from Tahoe to Alaska. It's slashy and fun in the trees or mellow pow laps, but also handles really well in steeps. It's shorter and turns on a dime, which is awesome for chutes/couloirs. Only downside is that the fish tail makes it a tougher for landing bigger cliff drops.

I'm 6'1", 180 and sized up to the 160.
