sizing guidelines

Find your perfect size

Ready to buy a Jones board but shaky on what size to get? Here’s the lowdown on how to size our boards based on experience from Jeremy Jones and the Jones team.

These suggested sizing guidelines are based on rider weight, rider height, boot size and intended use. Following this advice will help you maximize board performance and let you truly experience the ride feel each model was engineered to deliver. If you are too heavy or too light for a given size, the board will feel softer or stiffer than designed to be.

Big footed riders take note of the wide size options included by model.

Different shape, different size

Not all board shapes are designed to be ridden the same size.

Directional Freeride boards are the longest board you will ride. Choose the ideal size Directional Freeride board using your weight and boot size.

Directional Twin boards can be ridden shorter than a Directional Freeride board, unless you plan to ride the Twin in deep pow. For steeps and park riding, size your Twin 2 - 3 cm shorter than your Directional Freeride board.

Alternative Freeride boards are designed to be ridden substantially shorter than a Directional Freeride board. For a Hovercraft or Ultracraft, go 4 - 8 cm shorter than your Directional Freeride board.

The Surf Series models live by their own sizing rules. The Storm Chaser should be ridden 6 -13 cm SHORTER than your freeride size and the Mind Expander 4 -8 cm SHORTER than your freeride size.

Unisex models

Hovercraft 2.0 / Hovercraft Split 2.0 / Ultralight Hovercraft Split 2.0

Hovercraft 2.0 sizes: 144, 148, 152, 156, 160, 164 cm
Hovercraft Split 2.0 sizes: 148, 152, 156, 160 cm
Ultralight Hovercraft Split 2.0 sizes: 152, 156, 160

With a blunt nose, squat stiff tail, long sidecut radius and long effective edge, the Hovercraft 2.0 is a compact board that rides and floats like a much longer board. It is designed to be ridden 3-6 cm shorter than your traditional snowboard. The Hovercraft 2.0 is also now a unisex model with sizes to fit riders of all sizes.

Lighter, smaller riders who rarely ride boards bigger than a 152 cm (even in pow), should check out the Hovercraft 2.0 144 or 148 cm. If you normally ride a 157-162 cm board and you weigh 150+ lbs, you’ll want the Hovercraft 156 cm. If you normally ride a 162+ cm board, or you have size US 11/11.5 boot or bigger, grab a Hovercraft 2.0 160 cm. The Hovercraft 2.0 164 cm is a seriously big/wide board for tall/heavy guys or those with massive feet (US 12+). Note that all Hovercraft are fairly wide for their length. Average size riders with over-sized feet are still perfect on the Hovercraft 2.0 156.

The Hovercraft 2.0 Split and the Ultralight Hovercraft 2.0 Split can be sized the same as the solid. Most women will want the 148 cm, or the 152 cm if you have bigger feet than size 9. Most men will want the 156 cm. A 156 cm splitboard may sound small for riding deep pow, but the Hovercraft 156 cm actually floats like a 162 cm without the extra 6 cm of board weight to carry on the way up. Again, if you are heavier (180+ lbs / 80+ kg) or have bigger feet (US 11+), go with Hovercraft 2.0 split 160.

Jeremy Jones is 5’8" (1.73m) tall, weighs 150 lbs (68kg) and wears a US 8 boot. Jeremy rides the Hovercraft 2.0 156 cm.

Freecarver 6000s / Freecarver 9000s

Freecarver 6000s sizes: 150, 154, 158 cm
Freecarver 9000s sizes: 152, 156, 160, 164 cm

The new Freecarver 6000s and 9000s are directional freeride boards designed to help you carve up the mountain with precision and style. Featuring a medium flex, full camber profile and a tapered directional shape these models blend design elements from race, boardercross and freeride boards into a snappy, high performance ride that excels at carving. The Freecarver 6000s has a short 6 meter sidecut and is made for carving tight turns. The Freecarver 9000s has a long 9 meter sidecut and is made for ripping fast and wide turns.

Both models are designed to be ridden shorter than your usual freeride board size. They are also both designed to be wide so riders with big feet can ride smaller sizes without getting heel or toe drag.
Lighter, smaller riders will want the smallest sizes, which is the 6000s 150 cm and the 9000s 152 cm. Riders who normally ride 155-160 freeride boards should check out  the middle sizes, the 6000s 154 and the 9000s 156 and 160 cm. The Freecarver 6000s 158 will be the best bet for any rider who rides a 162 cm or bigger freeride board, and the Freecarver 9000s 164 cm is a rocketship made for the biggest riders out there.

Ultralight Butterfly Split

Ultralight Butterfly Split sizes: 150, 154, 158cm

The Ultralight Butterfly Split is an ultralight split made for high alpine pursuits where the balance of weight and performance are hyper critical. By drastically reducing the tip and tail size, but keeping the contact points pushed out, the Butterfly Split has the effective edge of a board 10 cm longer than its length. The long effective edge is matched with a true camber profile for maximum edge power in variable alpine conditions.

Because the Butterfly has such a long effective edge it can be ridden 4-6 cm shorter than your typical freeride board. Lighter, smaller riders will definitely want the 150cm. If you normally ride a 156-160 split, go for the 154 cm and if you ride a 159-163 cm split go for the 158 cm. Riders with big feet should note, however, that the 158 cm only has a 25.9 cm waist width and is not a Big Horn series model.

Storm Chaser

Storm Chaser sizes: 142, 147, 152, 157, 160 cm
Storm Chaser Split sizes: 147, 152, 157 cm

The Storm Chaser is a next-level powder tool that also happens to rail like a race car on piste. The extra wide waist width and tight side cut radius combine to make a very floaty, turny board.

The Storm Chaser was designed to pack the volume of a much longer board in a very compact package. Though a 147 cm may sound small, it is the ideal size for a vast majority of riders. The Storm Chaser 142 cm is for lighter, smaller riders and the 152 cm is for riders who normally ride a 162-165 cm freeride board. The 157 and 160 cm are seriously big boards made for heavy riders who normally ride a 166-172 cm freeride board.

Storm Wolf

Storm Wolf sizes: 150, 154, 158, 162 cm

The Storm Wolf is a high powered swallowtail that blends the all-mountain versatility of a directional freeride board with signature Surf Series turn performance. Featuring a Christenson Surf Camber profile, a long sidecut and a mid-stiff flex, the Storm Wolf is made for railing turns at speed and bombing through deep pow.

The Storm Wolf is designed to be ridden just a touch shorter than your directional freeride board. If you are a smaller rider who normally rides a <158cm freeride board, go for the 150 or the 154 cm, and if you’re an average sized rider who normally rides a 158-161 cm freeride board, go for the Storm Wolf 158 cm. The 158 cm has a 26.3 cm waist width which will fit up to a size 11.5 boot. If you are a taller or heavier rider, 175+ lbs (78 kg), who normally rides a 161-165 cm freeride board, step up to the Storm Wolf 162 cm. The 162 cm has a 26.5 cm waist width and will fit boots up to size 13.

A vast majority of the Jones team including Forrest Shearer and Jeremy Jones, all ride the Storm Wolf 158 cm.

Mind Expander Twin

Mind Expander Twin sizes: 146, 150, 154, 158, 162 cm

The Mind Expander Twin is a hybrid Surf Series model that blends the playful, easy going board feel of the Mind Expander with the freestyle performance of a directional twin shape. It is designed to be sized like a directional twin park board, but thanks to a wide waist width and 3D-Contour Base it will offer a ton more float than any other twin you’ve ever ridden.

Youth and smaller adult rippers will enjoy the 146 or 150 cm twin. If you are an average size rider, go for the 154 cm. The 154 cm has a 26.0 waist width so it will fit boots up to size 10.5. If you are a bigger rider who rides 160+ cm freeride boards, or have boots bigger than 10.5, check out the 158 cm which has a 26.4 cm waist width. The 162cm is for the biggest riders out there and checks in with a 26.8 cm waist width.

Jones team rider Garrett Warnick rides the Mind Expander Twin 154 cm on all but the deepest pow days. The small size lets him tweak and spin with ease, while the wide waist gives him the volume he needs to stomp tricks in pow.

Men's

Flagship / Ultra Flagship

Flagship sizes: 151, 154, 156W, 158, 159W, 161, 162W, 164, 165W, 167, 169W, 172 cm
Ultra Flagship sizes: 158, 161, 162W, 164, 165W cm

The Flagship was designed to handle all conditions, all terrain. It’s the ultimate freeride board and excels when pointed into the fall line. The blunted nose and tail keep the Flagship compact, which provides awesome float without the extra spin weight in the tips. Compared to your old round nose freeride board, the Flagship can be downsized 2-3 cm.

If you are an average sized guy with an average sized foot, chances are the Flagship 161 cm is your dream boat. The 161 cm is the perfect balance between enough board for deep pow but small enough to be maneuverable in tight situations. The 162W is about the same size board but wider for average sized guys with bigger feet (US 11+).

If you are a smaller rider, or ride a lot of hard pack, then the 154 or 158 cm may be your ticket. The 156W and 159W are similar sized, but made for smaller riders with big feet.

The Flagship 164 cm rides noticeably longer than the 161 cm. It’s great for deep pow or slightly bigger riders. Ryland Bell rides the Ultra Flagship 164 cm pretty much 24/7. You won’t catch Jeremy Jones on the Flagship 164 cm unless he is in Alaska. The 165W is similar to 164 but it’s substantially wider and fits boots US 11.5-13. The 167 is perfect for big guys with smaller than size 11 feet or riders who consistently ride deep pow and need serious float. The 169W is for sasquatch-sized riders with massive feet. The Flagship 172 is not as wide as the 169W, so best for big riders who love long boards, but don’t wear big boots.

Though it depends on the terrain, in wide open situations, the bigger the Flagship, the faster you can safely throttle it. That said, going with the smaller size in the 161 vs 164 or 162W vs 165W debate will give you an all-around more nimble board in variable conditions. In hard pack you’ll often see Jeremy on a Flagship 158 cm. Team riders who are strictly Flagship folk, switch off 161 vs. 164 depending on how deep it is.

Solution / Ultralight Solution

Solution sizes: 154, 158, 159W, 161, 162W, 164, 165W, 167, 169W cm
Ultra Solution sizes: 158, 161, 162W, 164, 165W cm

The Solution is a hard charging and playful splitboard that is designed to excel in all snow conditions. It is the same shape, size and camber profile as the Flagship.

The Solution features a blunted, rockered nose and tail that give the board insane float for its length. You can downsize the Solution 2-3 cm from your old pow board. We have found that you can use the smaller size Solutions (158, 161, 162W cm) in all but stupid deep pow by just setting back the stance a bit more. The shorter size is lighter which is nice on the way up and more nimble in the inevitable backcountry jungle shred situations. The bigger sizes (164, 165W, 167, 169W) are great for taller, heavier than average riders or those with the intention of frequent overnight split trips carrying heavy tour packs.

The most popular size solution is the 161 cm. Lighter guys with small feet might benefit from a 158 cm especially if your normal board size of choice is 156-158 cm.

If you have size US 12+ boots, look to the 165W or 169W for best performance on steep, hard pack terrain. Anything smaller and you might heel out on steep terrain depending on how you set the heel/toe spacing of your split bindings. The 159W and 162W are mid-wide and ideal for boots size US 10.5-12.

Stratos / Stratos Split / Ultralight Stratos Split / Ultralight Project X

Stratos sizes: 153, 156, 158W, 159, 161W, 162, 164W cm
Stratos Split sizes: 156, 158W, 159, 161W cm
Ultralight Stratos Split sizes: 156, 159, 161W cm
Ultralight Project X sizes: 156, 159 cm

The Stratos is a hybrid all-mountain board built with the body of a directional freeride board and the spirit of a freestyle board. It has a playful board feel thanks to a narrow sidecut and camber between the contact points, but the 10mm of taper and 3D Contour Base 3.0 give it the float and turn performance of a pow board.

The Stratos fits like a directional twin and should be ridden 1-3 cm shorter than a directional freeride board. Riders of average size will best fit the Stratos 156 or 159 cm. Go for the smaller of the two sizes for better maneuverability in the park or on the steeps. Size up to the 159 or the 162 for better performance in pow. Youth and smaller adults should ride the 153 and riders with boots size 11+ check out the 158W, 161W and 164W.

The Stratos Splits can be sized the same as the solid models, but most riders will appreciate the bigger of your two potential sizes for better pow performance and float with a backpack on.

Mountain Twin / Mountain Twin Split / Ultra Mountain Twin

Mountain Twin sizes: 149, 151, 153W, 154, 156W, 157, 159W, 160, 162W, 163, 165W, 168W cm
Mountain Twin Split sizes: 157, 159W, 160 cm
Ultra Mountain Twin sizes: 154, 156W, 157, 159W, 160, 162W, 163, 165W cm

The Mountain Twin is one of the most  playful boards in the Jones quiver and is equally at home in the park, pow or on piste. The Ultra Mountain Twin is the same size and shape as the standard Mountain Twin, but it’s super charged with carbon stringers and a faster base for more stability at speed.

Whether you lean toward riding park or riding pow may be influential in your Mountain Twin size choice. If you lean toward jibbing and hitting jumps you’ll want a slightly smaller board than if you’re looking for a new pow stick.

The 149 cm is the perfect size for teenagers and the 151 and 154 cm are the ideal size for smaller, lighter adult riders (110-150 lbs / 49-86 kg). The most popular size for average size guys is the 157 cm. With the blunted tips, the 157 cm floats like a traditional 159 cm but is still a great park size. If you are a little bigger or heavier than average, or you're looking for a pow board, check out the 160 cm or the 162W cm.

For those with decent sized but not huge feet (US 10-11.5) check out the mid-wide 153W or 156W for park and the 159W for pow. If you have really big feet (US 12+) then the 162W, 165W or 168W will be your best bet to avoid heel drag.

Jones team rider Taylor Carlton is 5’8" (1.73m) tall, weighs 145 lbs (66kg) and wears a US 9 boot. He rides the Mountain Twin 157cm almost daily, both at the resort and hitting backcountry jumps.

Aviator 2.0

Aviator 2.0 sizes: 150, 154, 156, 157W, 158, 159W, 162, 163W cm

The Aviator 2.0 is a razor sharp directional twin that features a full camber profile. Though it excels on firm snow, there are several Jones team riders who ride an Aviator in any snow condition as the 3D-Contour Base keeps your edges catch free in pow or crust.

Most riders of average size choose the 158 cm. This is a great all-around size for park, pipe and carving. If you are a smaller, lighter rider go for the 154, 156 or 157W if you’re average size, but have slightly bigger feet. Youth can take flight on the 150cm. If you are taller than average, or weigh over 180 lbs (80 kg), consider the 162 cm. Note that the 162 cm has a relatively narrow 25.6 cm waist width, however, so riders with boots bigger than size 10 will want the 159W or 163W that are both part of our Bighorn series.

To keep the board nimble in tight terrain, it’s recommended to ride a smaller Aviator than your directional freeride board. Jeremy Jones rides the Aviator 154 cm on spring days at the resort. Victor De Le Rue rides the 158 cm in the park and the 162 cm when he is freeriding or competing on the Freeride World Tour.

Tweaker

Tweaker sizes: 149, 151, 154, 156, 157W, 159, 160W, 162 cm

The Tweaker is a freestyle focused true twin that’s built to pop ollies, toss tricks, and carve creative lines in any terrain. A True Twin shape, buttery flex and True Camber profile give the Tweaker a playful, evenly balanced board feel, and a unique double radius nose and tail profile maximize the running length of the blunted shape and offer amazing float.

The Tweaker fits like a traditional true twin freestyle board and should be ridden 1-3 cm shorter than a directional freeride board. Teenage and small adult riders will enjoy the 149 or the 151 cm, but most adult riders will be best suited with the 154 and 156 cm Tweaker. Taller, heavier or riders who wear size 11+ boots will need the 157W or 160W, both of which are in the Big Horn series. The 159 and 162 cm are for taller freestyle focused riders who wear size 10.5 or smaller boots.

Frontier / Frontier Split

Frontier sizes: 152, 156, 158W, 159, 161W, 162, 164W, 165, 167W cm
Frontier Split sizes: 152, 156, 158W, 159, 161W, 162, 164W cm

The Frontier is a directional freeride board designed for maximum performance in all conditions. The rocker nose and tail deliver serious float in the deep stuff and camber between the bindings keeps the Frontier railing on hard pack. A friendly flex makes it the most jibby, playful splitboards we make.

Riders of average size should check out the Frontier 159 or 162 cm. The Frontier 159 cm is a very versatile size. Lighter, smaller riders, or those looking for a shorter board for jumping, don’t miss the 152 or 156 cm. Those with big feet stick to the wide sizes.

Same sizing story with the Frontier split. The 159 cm is a great all-around size for those under 6 feet (1.8m) / 175 lbs (78 kg). Bigger guys with smaller than size 11 boots should jump up to the 162 or 165, and if you got big boots, size 11 and up, go for the 161W or 164W.

Mind Expander

Mind Expander sizes: 146, 150, 154, 158, 162, 166 cm
Mind Expander Split sizes: 150, 154, 158 cm
Ultra Mind Expander sizes: 150, 154, 158, 162 cm

The Mind Expander is an inspired alternative to your average all-mountain board. Surf shaper Chris Christenson and Jeremy Jones designed the Mind Expander to be a precise and fluid paintbrush for the creative modern day rider who draws lines blending freestyle, freeride and surf styles. The wide waist width and tight side cut radius combine to make a slashy board that can stomp.

The Mind Expander was designed to pack the volume of a much longer board in a compact package. The Mind Expander 150 cm is for lighter, smaller riders or teenagers. The 154 cm is the ideal size for riders of average size who normally ride a 158-162cm freeride board. The 158 cm is made for slightly bigger riders who normally ride a 162-166 cm freeride board. The 162 and 166 cm are really big guns designed for guys who normally ride 166-172 cm freeride boards.

Women's

Women's Flagship

Sizes: 146, 149, 152, 155 cm

The Women’s Flagship is one of the most aggressive women’s freeride boards on the market. It is a powerful, confidence inspiring shred stick for women who like to charge hard.

The Flagship 152cm is the best size for average size women. The 152cm offers plenty of float and is best size for making tight turns in technical terrain. The 155 cm will offer more float in pow, but don’t be afraid to get the 152 cm and just set it back on the deep days. Lighter, smaller women look to the 149 cm and taller, heavier women should check out the 155 cm. The 146cm is great for youth and notably shorter than average women. Note that the blunted tips on the Flagship give it more volume than your average pow board. The 152 cm rides like a traditional 154 cm and the 155 cm rides like a 157 cm.

Women's Solution

Sizes: 146, 149, 152, 155 cm

The Women’s Solution is a premiere women’s splitboard and the identical shape and size to the Women’s Flagship.

For the inevitably variable backcountry snow conditions, most women will prefer the 152 cm. The 152 cm provides an ideal balance of float and maneuverability for the average sized women. Note that the blunted tips on the Solution pack more float than your average board. The 152 cm rides like a traditional 154 and the 156 cm rides like your old 158 cm. Younger, smaller women check out the 148 cm and taller, heavier women look to the 156 cm.

Women's Stratos / Women's Stratos Split

Women's Stratos sizes: 143, 146, 149, 152, 155 cm
Women's Stratos Split sizes: 146, 149, 152

The Stratos is a hybrid all-mountain board built with the body of a directional freeride board and the spirit of a freestyle board. It has a playful board feel thanks to a narrow sidecut and camber between the contact points, but the 10mm of taper and 3D Contour Base 3.0 give it the float and turn performance of a pow board.

The Stratos fits like a directional twin, and you should size it 1-3 cm shorter than your directional freeride board. The Women’s Stratos 149 cm is the best size for most women. If you are a smaller rider, or you primarily ride on piste or in the park, check out the 143 or the 146 cm. Taller women or those looking for better performance in pow should try the 152 cm, and women who like to ride long (158+ cm) freeride boards should try the 155cm.

Elena Hight rides the Women’s Stratos 146 cm in spring conditions and bumps up to the 149 cm for mellow pow days or when the snow is crusty.

Dream Weaver / Dream Weaver Split

Dream Weaver sizes: 139, 142, 145, 148, 151, 154, 156 cm
Dream Weaver Split sizes: 142, 145, 148, 151, 154 cm

The Dream Weaver is our women’s all-mountain board made for snagging those fresh fantasy turns. Featuring a directional freeride shape and a friendly flex, the Dream Weaver is stable and confidence inspiring, yet soft enough to be playful in any terrain.

The Dream Weaver has a blunted directional freeride shape that packs extra volume into a compact shape. Most average size women will enjoy riding the 151 or the 154 cm. The 151 cm will be more maneuverable on piste and in spring snow. The 154 cm will have a little more float in pow. That said, don’t be afraid to get the 151 cm and just set it back on deep days. Taller than average women or those with big feet will enjoy the 156cm. Lighter, smaller women look to the 145 and 148 cm. Teenage women will be best strapped into the 139 or 142 cm.

Women's Mind Expander

Women's Mind Expander sizes: 142, 146, 150 cm

The Women's Mind Expander is an inspired alternative to your average all-mountain board. It's designed to be a precise and fluid paintbrush for the creative modern day rider who draws lines blending freestyle, freeride and surf styles. The wide waist width and tight side cut radius combine to make a slashy board that can stomp.

By packing the volume of a much longer board in a compact package, the Women's Mind Expander can be ridden a few cm smaller than your normal board size. If you normally ride a 149 cm or smaller, go for the 142 cm. If you normally ride a 149-152 cm board, go for a 146 cm. The 150 cm is great for taller, heavier women who normally ride 154-156 cm boards.

Twin Sister

Twin Sister sizes: 140, 143, 146, 149, 152, 155 cm

Women who like to pop, play, carve and cruise need the Twin Sister. It is a directional twin with rocker tips and camber between the feet for maximum float and response.

The Twin Sister 149 cm and 152 cm are the most popular sizes. The 149 cm will be the most forgiving and maneuverable for average sized women. Younger and smaller women who excel on small boards look to the 139, 143 and 146cm. The 152 cm is a great size for slightly taller, heavier or more experienced pow hunters and the 155 cm is for women of above average height and weight.

AirHeart 2.0

Airheart 2.0 sizes: 143, 146, 149, 152, 155 cm

The Airheart 2.0 is our elite all-mountain freestyle board built for women who like to carve hard and take to the air with confidence. The nimble handling and supersonic acceleration of the Airheart result from the Spoon 2.0 Nose and Tail plus the Power Camber profile.

The Air Heart 149 cm will be the most responsive and maneuverable for average sized women. Younger and smaller women who excel on small boards should check out the 143 or 146cm. The 152 and 155 cm are great sizes for slightly taller, heavier women, or those looking for a crossover board that also excels in pow.

Youth

Prodigy / Ultra Prodigy

Prodigy sizes: 100, 110, 115, 120, 125, 130, 135, 140, 145 cm

Typically, K-2nd grade kids ride the 100 or 110 cm, 2nd and 3rd graders ride the 115-125 cm, 3rd and 4th graders ride the 120-130 cm and 5th and 6th graders ride the 135-145 cm.

Mini Mind Expander

Mini Mind Expander sizes: 130, 138 cm

The Mini Mind Expander is a game changing powder board for young rippers. By packing the volume of a much longer board in a compact package, the Mini Mind Expander can be ridden a few cm smaller than your normal board size. Young riders who normally ride a 135-140 cm board should go for the Mini Mind Expander 130 cm. Older youth who ride a 140-145 cm board, check out the 138 cm.

Youth Flagship

Youth Flagship sizes: 127, 132, 137, 142, 147 cm

The Youth Flagship is a high performance freeride board for youth and small adults who want to confidently explore advanced terrain. Unlike most twin-tipped youth boards, the Youth Flagship features a proven directional shape that offers legit freeride performance on steeps and off piste.

The Youth Flagship comes in five sizes covering a wide range. Elementary school age riders will typically ride the 127 and 132 cm. Young teenage riders who are a little too small for adult sized boards will fit the 137 and 142 cm. The 147 cm is for small young men or women looking for a high performance freeride board in an extra small size.

Youth Solution

Young teenage riders who are a little too small for adult sized boards will fit the 137 and 142 cm. The 147 cm is for small young men or women looking for a high performance splitboard in an extra small size.
