Shape & profile

A snowboard's outline defines many of its characteristics, from how it turns or floats in powder to its performance riding switch. Shape affects everything from the width and taper of the nose and tail, to the position of the stance relative to the board's center.

Shape image

[Shape]

Directional

A directional outline with a longer nose, shorter tail and setback stance to optimize float, maneuverability and edge power. Designed for riders who prioritize performance on groomers and in the backcountry over park riding.

[Taper]

Low Tapered

A subtle taper that aids directional performance but keeps the ride feeling balanced and dynamic on piste and resort terrain. Popular with riders who like to carve the resort or push freestyle in the backcountry, without giving up versatility on the powder days. Any shape with a taper of less than 10mm between the nose and tail.

3D Contour Base

Shape image

Surf-inspired shaping for next-level performance.

Inspired by the rounded bottom contours of surfboards, 3D Contour Bases are designed to make every run smoother and every turn more effortless by reducing the drag of the board tips. 3D Contour Bases enhance glide and improve float, helping you ride faster and with better flow. Learn more

[3d_pr0file]

Medium 3D Contour Base

3D Contour Base tuned for all-terrain featuring 4mm of spoon bevel in the nose and 0-4mm of spoon bevel in the tail. Spoon bevel starts just before the contact points.

How it works

Riding flat
Riding flat

When riding flat, the spoon bevel on the edges is not engaged, but it does help smoothly deflect snow away from the nose of the board.

Turn initiation
Turn initiation

As you begin to make a turn, the spoon bevel helps you smoothly roll the board on to your egde with less friction and edge drag.

Mid turn
Mid turn

In the middle of a turn, camber and Traction Tech keep you locked onto your egde in the center of the board while the spoon bevel reduces the "plow effect" of your nose and tail edges.

This is my favorite board of all time

Buy it! This is my favorite board of all time. Lay trenches and lay just above the snow and surf the earth. I have size 13 boots and no plates needed to prevent booting out. Dreams eventually do come true.

Only had a chance to get a few runs in before season end but what I could see was great. Spring conditions, so some slop on top of hard pack. The board blew through the slop and dug into the hard. Took me back a bunch of years to when I used to race, but way more stable and forgiving than those early carving boards. I think I will really enjoy some early morning groomers on this board. I have a mind expander for my sled ski board, a 161 twin for my resort board and now this. Fantastic. In this house hold we have been doing our very best to not buy products manufactured in the US. That says something about what we think of your equipment. Wifey rides a Jones as well. Cheers.

Hey Selena,
Appreciate you taking the time to share this. Stoked the Freecarver 9000s already brought back that race-era feel while still giving you the stability and forgiveness for modern carving — that balance is exactly what it’s built for. Sounds like it’s fitting in well alongside your Mind Expander and twin setup, and great to hear the whole household is getting on Jones boards. Enjoy those early groomer sessions when the season kicks back in.

Amazing carving board

Stiff and powerful. This is my first carving board and it is amazing. Really stiff. You need lots of speed to make it responsive, but once it gets going, omg, it's a dream.

Great carving on slopes at high speed

It took me a couple of days to get used to the board (coming from a very different type of snowboard) but it’s great and I am now having fun carving with my new S-9000 which is very reliable at high speed. As great as I expected!

Hey Stephane,
Stoked to hear you're dialing in the Freecarver 9000S! That transition period is real when you're coming from a different board style, but sounds like it's paying off now.
High-speed carving is where the S-9000 shines – glad it's delivering!

Don’t be scared to size up if you’re tryna lay it over!

I’m an advanced rider.. 155lbs/10 vans boot.
Jones recommended 152 or 156, I went 156. It’s a wide board, but for a carving specific board, I wish I would have went 160. I usually prefer a bigger board but was hesitant going too big on this long edge.
The deck is sick though, fast and lays over far for sure.
I’ve ridden many decks with traction tech/magna traction.. my opinion is that does not belong on this board. You can feel the extra drag, when you don’t really want it.
Also paired with mercury binders, very comfy. But toe strap seems stretchy/flimsy. I wish the highback could adjust side to side. With big positive stance, puts high backs in not the best place. And the foam rolled over the top of the high back is already peeling off. I’m sure it’ll glue back down.. but I’ve only got like 10 laps on this setup.
All in all, very decent, comfortable ride! Just worried about quality/longevity of the binders.

Hi Weston,

Thanks for the expert insight on sizing up the 9000s to really lay those carves over! We’ve shared your feedback regarding the Traction Tech drag on a carving-specific deck with our product team for review. Thanks for the detailed review :)

Fun to ride!

Definitely lives up to the reputation of speed and long carves.

I've had it out only for one day so the following feedback may be just due to getting used to the board, but the tail edge seems to catch when transitioning between turns. Maybe I need to move the bindings back or forward. I'll make some adjustments and see how it goes.

Hi Chris,

Stoked to hear you're enjoying the speed of the 9000s! If the tail is catching, a small adjustment to your binding position can definitely help dial in those long, smooth carves. Let us know how the next session goes!

A happy rider and now Freecarver, in Skitown USA

When you initially take a look at the shape and intended use of the FC9K, you’re thinking it’s gonna be a one trick pony. That could not be further from the truth! Whether you are charging some fresh corduroy on a bluebird day or ducking into some tight aspen lines carving bottomless powder, the Freecarver continues to provide this guy lots of joy! A great addition to my already enjoyable line up of the Jones Aviator and Flagship! Now Jones has created a big conundrum in my house, which one of these boards do I choose to go out and play? I appreciate tough decisions… keep up the good work and continue providing bottomless smiles!

Hi Matthew,

That is seriously awesome to hear! We are stoked the Freecarver 9000s provides so much joy, whether you're charging corduroy or carving bottomless powder in the aspen trees. Keep up the great riding!

Out of my 7 boards, the favourite at the moment

If you get pissed often because a skier overtake you and you know that's just because of the board, look no further, this board kicks asses on the pistes! It's super fast yet so stable that you realise you are a rocket only when you catch a skier from behind and they get pissed, lol!

Hey Luigi!

That is an epic review! Stoked to hear that out of your boards, the Freecarver 9000s is your current favorite. It's awesome that you're experiencing the super fast and stable ride we designed it for. Keep on sending it out there!

Not a one trick pony

The flex on this board makes it surprisingly approachable, but as others have mentioned pay attention, the camber will keep you honest if you get sloppy with your turns. Like others have made some of the best turns of my life on this board, super locked in when you commit to a rail. The effective edge on the 156 is similar to boards around 166 without all the bulk which also makes it versatile. Great job Jones Team!

Freecarver 9k rocketship!

You know the board is fast when you’re passing the skiers and your snowboard mates can’t keep up! By far this is the quickest board i’ve tried in 25 years of riding! This board does not forgive mistakes or laziness! It requires full commitment and a bit of trust from the rider but once you lay it down it carves and picks up speed with every turn faster than anything else! If you’re not ready for the edge change it will send you flying like it sent me on my first day out!!! One thing to note - it needs a tune out of the box!

The name of the board says it all

This thing carves. Set your bindings forward, charge hard and get real low - Not much else needed to say except get carving!

The Carver i've always dreamed of

I've been very very passionate about snowboard carving for 20 years+, and over the time i've tried many different boards. None of them can compare to this. If i got space for it i can carve a whole steep run and reach 80km/h+ with this thing, and somehow the edge always hold. If there's a patch of ice somewhere I can just wait to be past it, and then i just get my body lower to the ground, push on that edge and turn the board around me towards the next turn, it's an incredible feeling. This is the pinnacle of high speed, big radius carving. If this is your vibe don't look any further.

A surprisingly versatile freeride board!!!

I took this board to everywhere on the mountain in various conditions; moguls, cliffs, tight trees, deep powder, board cross, jump lines, and half pipes. It handles all really well! Jones got freecarver's stiffness just right working with its width and huge camber. It is very easy to throw around!! This is now my favorite board for moguls. Also it floats pow nicely and I never took out my flagship on a pow day.

I love my 9000s so much that I'm thinking of buying a 6000s, too. However, I found it to be a bit soft for a carving specific board... But it's OK, it exceeds everything else!!!

For your reference, I used a 156 board and I'm 5'10 170lbs using size 9 boots.
