Shape & profile

A snowboard's outline defines many of its characteristics, from how it turns or floats in powder to its performance riding switch. Shape affects everything from the width and taper of the nose and tail, to the position of the stance relative to the board's center.

Shape image

[Shape]

Directional

A directional outline with a longer nose, shorter tail and setback stance to optimize float, maneuverability and edge power. Designed for riders who prioritize performance on groomers and in the backcountry over park riding.

[Pr0file]

Christenson Surf Rocker

A custom, surf-inspired, tip-to-tail rocker profile designed by surf shaper Chris Christenson. When you weight the tail of the board the nose ramps up out of the snow for unbeatable float on the deepest days.

[Taper]

High Tapered

Our most accentuated taper, reserved for powder-focused shapes where float and maneuverability in deep snow are the priority. The wider nose plows through soft snow while the narrower tail sinks naturally. Any shape with more than 15mm of taper between the nose and tail.

3D Contour Base

Shape image

Surf-inspired shaping for next-level performance.

Inspired by the rounded bottom contours of surfboards, 3D Contour Bases are designed to make every run smoother and every turn more effortless by reducing the drag of the board tips. 3D Contour Bases enhance glide and improve float, helping you ride faster and with better flow. Learn more

[3d_pr0file]

Medium 3D Contour Base

3D Contour Base tuned for all-terrain featuring 4mm of spoon bevel in the nose and 0-4mm of spoon bevel in the tail. Spoon bevel starts just before the contact points.

How it works

Riding flat
Riding flat

When riding flat, the spoon bevel on the edges is not engaged, but it does help smoothly deflect snow away from the nose of the board.

Turn initiation
Turn initiation

As you begin to make a turn, the spoon bevel helps you smoothly roll the board on to your egde with less friction and edge drag.

Mid turn
Mid turn

In the middle of a turn, camber and Traction Tech keep you locked onto your egde in the center of the board while the spoon bevel reduces the "plow effect" of your nose and tail edges.

Mind expanded

Having ridden the first Mind Expander and loved it (maybe a little soft at the front) I had to buy the next Mind Expander which I loved even more - especially given it was now a lot stiffer up front and no more vibrations. So how do you top this board?

Easy - throw in a bunch of camber and make it stiffer - what a weapon!
The only bad side to it, I now have no use for my Aviator!

Mind blowing

Amazing powder board and equally as fun carving the groomers or banging a back foot hack in the spring slush. Ridden it now in good powder at Mt Hutt NZ and Myoko Japan and couldn't fault it. Do yourself a favour and expand your mind.

So comfortable and stable

My son loves the mini mind expander. Offered so much stability and speed to his riding.

Great kids pow board

Bought for my 10 year old son. We live in and ride in Alaska. Perfect pow board for kids. He made it out 85 days last season and a good amount of that was on this board.

Quick rail to rail

After a back injury pushing my 168W Flagship around was rough so I needed to size down the daily driver. I might have gone a little short with the 158 but this thing is quick and nimble
It holds a carve well with relatively low vibration at speed and is great in the trees. Wish it had the same gas pedal as the flagship but that’s what I get for sizing down.
Jones never disappoints

Overall the board performed well

Overall the board performed well - very little nose chatter, smooth transition rail to rail, and speed generation impressive. One thing I'm struggling with is front foot fatigue (only on this new board). Of all things common the board and bindings are the only new item(s).

Amazing snowboard, but sad conditions to use it in

Rips through crud perfectly, amazing performance in very snow starved conditions at Snowbasin Resort out in Utah. Very strong freeriding potential from the little that I have done, and amazing performance in carves.

Best Board by FAR

After dealing with a warranty issue with my Flagship (which i am also in love with) I decided to splurge and get the UME and i will tell you, i cant believe i waited this long. This board is about 7-9cm shorter than my other boards, but it handles ridiculously well at high speeds. It carved through powder, shredded through the trees, and bombed down the groomers. There is NOTHING this board cant handle! i love this board and will take it with me everywhere i go!

SIDE NOTE:

Jacob, from Jones Warranty Department was excellent and a pleasure to communicate with regarding my issues. He helped facilitate the purchase of this amazing board and i could NOT thank him enough!

Great pow board

I'm a 5ft tall 105lb woman riding the 130 and it is great in powder. Super floaty, makes quick turns. Also fun in moguls and groomers. I'd like to thank Jones for making a small powder board because I couldn't find one anywhere else. It's not the easiest board for fast carving (stated in the description), feels a bit sketchy but I'm getting there with practice

ultra mind expander

The positives are that its a solid board that rides great in perfect conditions, ie.from a little bit of pow to a lot of pow - the more pow, the better it rides. Especially carving. It does hold well on major steeps though.

The negative is it doesn't ride well on hard pack and ice. The nose is very large and makes quick turning tough through the trees. I thought it would be a bit lighter and nimbler.

The UME is my perfect everyday board- it handles all conditions exactly how I want. I have a ME, UltraCraft and UME- love them all but I put the most days on the UME without question. Get it- period

The Best All Around FUN Resort Board

Full disclosure: I own 3 Jones boards, 161 carbon flagship, 154 ultra mind expander, and 154 storm chaser.

I got the ultra to replace my carbon flagship as a daily resort board. I've ridden it for around 10 days now in every type of condition possible: pow, ice, uneven terrain, groomers, on/off piste, even on a sand dune (no joke).

What impressed me most is how turny and slashy this board is, you can rail a hard carve and leave a trench at any speed without washing out. The turn initiation is insanely fast edge to edge, and gives me a very "in control" feel.

A few comparisons:
Carbon Flagship: With the CF you have to, at minimum, ride above 30mph to get a solid engagement from the board, it turns quickly but only when you're going above 30mph, and it really really like to straightline. With the CF, you're just a bystander along for the pants soiling ride.. before you know it, you're bombing down at 60mph and praying you don't wake up next to hospital lights. Don't get me wrong, the CF has its place and is bar-none the best at freeriding and stability at speed, but for all its accolades, I wanted something more daily-able that's also fun at slower speed.

In comes the UME, which combines the best of CF while maintaining a fun personality (CF being a serious personality). It's super stable at speed too, I didn't notice any chatter around 50mph - which is the fastest I've gone in the UME, and because the turn initiation is so quick, it makes tree riding and railing hard carve on groomers a blast! In powder, its no less a board than any other pow board, the short tail with big nose makes riding pow pretty effortless. Riding in pow, I actually to lean forward on the ultra to get better speed and control, but the fact that I can lean forward shows how well the huge nose and spoon shape floats.

Storm Chaser: The storm chaser is a powder machine, but I mistakenly rode it on uneven terrain in the spring time, the rocker profile bucked me around so hard that I was like never again in bumpy conditions. That set the stage for why I went with the UME over the regular ME. I ride in Tahoe (Squaw Valley) where we get all types of conditions - when its good, it's knee deep powder for days but those are few and far in between for me (because the highway gets shut down before I can get up there), so the majority of my riding is on uneven terrain, groomer hard pack, and the occasional pow. This is where the camber profile really shines and gives the board the stability I'm looking for in a daily. To date, I haven't washed out or got bucked around like I'm riding a snow horse and I've charged some hard lines with this (double black at mammoth).

Look, I'm not saying the majority of people who get the normal vs the ultra don't enjoy it, I'm just saying don't overlook the ultra because in my opinion, it's a much better all rounder and if you're like me, looking for an incredibly fun daily to tear up the whole mountain (park aside) this board would put a huge smile on your face.

The most fun I have ever had

5 good days in and it is still difficult to put the ride into words; the first time I nosed downhill on this board it was as though this was the board I had been trying to ride for my entire life. Slash anything, float over everything, and to my surprise when you lay down a serious arc it will not flinch. Is it perfect? Of course not, but it's the closest thing I've found. Fun-seekers only.

The faintest chatter in the spoon nose at ballistic speeds doesn't affect the ride, and stomping cliffs on a snubbed tail has a different dynamic. Obviously switch is a challenge, but it tries hard. I don't think I can ride a flat base or twin again. I'm ruined.

The Ultra Mind Expander Experience

This board is a Ferrari. It is the board that you compare all other boards to. Of all the boards I've ever ridden, this board shape and performance make them more like a VW. there really is no comparison. EXPAND YOUR MIND!
