Inspired shapes for creative riders
GLIDE
[glīd] n. v.
To move smoothly, continuously, effortlessly.
Glide is everything when it comes to surfing. Without glide you can not catch or ride a wave. Glide is your engine. Good glide means more speed and more options for creativity riding a wave.
Glide is equally important to snowboarding, but not as critical. You can ride a snowboard with poor glide but your options for creativity will be stifled. Have you ever groveled through a powder gully marveling at another rider’s track high on the walls but you can’t get up there? Bad glide, wrong board.
In our quest to develop board designs with the ultimate glide we reached out to a master of shaping ultra-fast gliding surfboards - Chris Christenson.

Shaped by Chris Christenson

Chris has been shaping surfboards for 22 years and has shaped over 20,000 boards. 5 XXL Surf award winners have ridden his boards to victory including Greg Long who won the Eddie and Waterman-Of-The-Year riding a Christenson gun. Chris is also a world class surfer himself, as well as an avid backcountry snowboarder. He operates two shaping studios, one in Encinitas, CA and another in the Eastern Sierra Mountains outside of Mammoth Lakes, CA. The shaping room in his Sierra cabin allows him to spend his winters shredding backcountry descents by day and making surfboards at night.
We are thrilled to have an ongoing design partnership with Chris. The Mind Expander, Storm Wolf and Storm Chaser are all offspring of this momentous collaboration. To no surprise, all three of these hand shaped surf-inspired boards deliver the most friction free, effortless glide you will ever feel on snow.

Scenes from the shaping room
Christenson shaped the contours of the new Mountain Surfer out of foam, then made a mold of the foam out of fiberglass. Grinding away the foam, he was left with a fiberglass shape prototype that held the intended outline and 3D top and bottom contours. The fiberglass proto was then digitally scanned and the files were used to make the production molds for the Mountain Surfer.

Hand shaped prototypes
The first template of the Storm Chaser was a thin piece of wood hand drawn and cut by Chris Christenson and Jeremy Jones in Jeremy’s garage. They used Chris’ surf shaping tools to outline the shape and rocker profile.
The Mind Expander and Lone Wolf were designed with the same techniques in Chris’ shaping room in Encinitas.

2023 Surf Series update
The 2023 Jones Surf Series debuts a completely fresh look across the collection. The clean and classy black and white racing stripe graphics are inspired by one of the most iconic graphics available in Christenson’s surfboard line.
The other big news regarding the 2023 Surf Series is that the Mind Expander, Mind Expander Split and Women’s Mind Expander all feature a new profile. To improve edge hold and turn performance in variable conditions these models are now built with a Surf Camber profile. Adding camber between the feet makes these Mind Expander models more versatile, but the playful board feel that defined them remains unchanged thanks to the V-Core profiling of their wood cores. V-Core makes the flex softer between the feet and stiffer in the tips so you can butter all day, yet not fold the board tips. The Mini-Mind Expander retains the Surf Rocker profile as lightweight riders see more benefit from the added float offered from rocker starting at the back binding.

Surf Series
Storm Chaser
The Storm Chaser is a nimble swallowtail with a wide, compact shape and short sidecut that offers magical float in pow and radical carving potential. This is the board for riders looking for a playful pow board they can also rip in spring snow.

Surf Series

Riders who desire the all-mountain performance of a directional twin matched with the nimble maneuverability of a surf inspired shape will love the Mind Expander.
Surf Series
Storm Wolf
The Storm Wolf is a high powered swallowtail with a Surf Camber profile and a long sidecut that’s designed to rail turns at speed. Riders searching for a board that blends the all-mountain versatility of a directional freeride board with signature Surf Series turn performance should strap into the Storm Wolf.

Construction
Terrain
Your board choice should match your terrain preference. If you primarily like to ride on-piste, hit small jumps and explore mellow off-piste terrain, go for an All-Mountain/Piste board. If you love riding un-groomed terrain, powder and big lines, go for a Freeride model. Many of our board models excel in deep powder and we also have several models perfect for freestylers who like to jump, ride switch and lap the terrain park.

here.Favorite Turn Shape
Not all board models turn the same. Some models are designed to enhance short and tight turns. Others excel at making big turns at high speeds. All models will make either style turn, but some are better at one turn style than the other. Choose the turn style you make the most to narrow down your board choices

here.Flex
Your riding level and riding style decide your ideal board flex. Medium flex boards (5-8) offer good stability at speed and are easy to turn. Stiff flex boards (8-10) are really stable at high speed and in rough snow conditions, but they require strength and technique to ride smoothly. If you are a beginner, intermediate or freestyle focused rider, a medium flex board is your best choice. If you are an expert rider, or are looking to increase your confidence riding in steep, rough terrain, look at our stiffer models. Note that many expert riders like medium flex boards especially when riding pow

here.Shape
True Twin
True twin boards have the exact same width (X) and length (Z) nose and tail. They are ideal for freestyle: jump, jib, spin, butter and riding switch.
Directional Twin
Directional twin shapes have the same width (X) nose and tail, but the nose (Y) is slightly longer than the tail (Z). The longer nose offers better float in pow and mixed conditions.
Directional
Directional shapes have a wider (X) and longer (Y) nose than tail (W). The narrow, shorter tail (Z) improves turn initiation and lifts the nose for better float in pow and mixed conditions.

Beginner/Intermediate
Beginner/Intermediate riders are those who are still learning how to make confident turns on variable terrain and snow conditions. To accelerate this learning process we suggest boards that are easy to turn and control.
Intermediate/Advanced
Intermediate riders are those that can make controlled turns in most terrain and snow conditions. Advanced riders are those that can confidently ride most anywhere on the mountain and have 3-5 years experience riding in all different snow types.
Expert/Elite
Expert riders are those with 5+ years riding experience that can confidently descend the most challenging and technical lines on the mountain, and/or ride the biggest features in the terrain park. Elite riders are those that have been riding for 10+ winters and have multiple 100+ day shred seasons under their belt.
Profile
Surf Rocker
Custom tip/tail rocker profile designed by surf shaper Chris Christenson. The nose rocker starts just inside of the front inserts and the tail rocker starts just at the back inserts. When you weight the tail of the board the nose ramps up out of the snow for insane float on the deepest days. Surf Rocker is ideal for soft snow and pow where float is most important.
CamRock
CamRock is a freestyle focused version of Directional Rocker that offers the edge power of camber and equal amounts of rocker in both nose and tail. CamRock improves freestyle finesse by keeping your tips playful while maintaining the power and pop of camber underfoot.
True Camber
True camber profile offers the most edge power for firm snow or freestyle riding, but not as much float in pow or crusty snow. The camber radius tapers into the beveled 3D contour base at the tips which releases the edges where they like to hook and balances the pop and directional stability of camber with a looser, less-catchy feel.
Directional Rocker
Directional Rocker offers the edge power of camber between the feet, and the float benefit of rocker in the tips. The rockered tip floats the board’s nose and improves maneuverability while the camber underfoot provides edge hold and response. A slightly rockered tail maintains the power and stability of a traditional board but helps keep the tail catch-free initiating turns and landing switch.
Big Horn Series
Snowboards and splitboards that are designed to fit riders with big feet (US size 11 or bigger). All men’s adult models include one or more Big Horn sizes that feature a > 26.3cm waist width.
