Unfortunately, adjusting the poles scratches the coating. Either the poles extend on their own because they are not tight enough, or the coating gets scratched. Somehow, it doesnt seem to have been tested very well.

Not good. After 1 season the coating is done. Look at the picture.

Agree with Max’s review, absolutely perfect design except for the weird plastic ring above the basket where the bottom clamp sits when closed that is a bit too small to keep the pole closed. The bottom section slides open when in collapsed position. I will make a fix as he noted but strange this was missed in design. Otherwise great poles, so many great features.

I was backpacking in Patagonia and put a pole down on some mud which must have added some resistance when pulling it up. To my shock the bottom piece disconnected from above the clamp where it was glued onto the 2nd pole. That's ABSOLUTELY COMICAL for a $160 pole. Does it even use glue??? I don't know why just one of my poles failed this way but it made it impossible to use for the rest of the 4 day trip because any mud or river would detach snow basket bottom portion :(( Jones support also ignored my email and from what I can tell it doesn't seem like you can order any replacement parts.

I recently ordered the Jones Solution Split board and skins. The quality is top notch. I am very happy.

I am not as much happy with the pre cut skins that do not match the boards edge profile. The wave in the skins and the board do not match. AKA the precut skins were cut wrong or I ordered the wrong ones or I was sent the wrong ones. I have already fell on the slopes because my edges were covered by the skins. Now I have to micro trim my skins to fit. Kinda annoying when I checked the board's size to order the right sized precut skin.

As with the board, I am not disappointed with these quality products.

Light poles easy to handle.
One thing which i didn‘t figure out yet is to bring the poles closer together for on the backpack.

I have had the same BD carbon poles for the last 7 years and they finally both snapped. That said I am so happy i went with the Jones Talon poles because they have a handle that scrapes snow well, no longer need to use my highback and are super adjustable and lightweight. No need to go carbon, they're feather light. Love them so far!

Still the best poles I've had.
Before these I'd been through a pair each of BD's z-poles & Expedition. They were ok, but within a season something or other would break.
I spend about 40 days a season in the Japanese backcountry, so that means very deep pow, to very crusty mornings in spring.
When I got the Jones Talons (3 years ago) I immediately sourced the bigger deep snow baskets from their supplier (Komperdell) for the winter. The Claw 1.0 has been fine for spring and hard conditions.
Unfortunately, I didn't know how to best adjust the clamps so I've beaten them up some, but they are still solid and hold. The pole sections have paid the price, but again, still doing their jobs.
I recently made the mistake of ordering some hyped-up poles made by a famous Canadian backcountry splitboarding guide and guess what? They are basically the talons with fixed (and way too soft) baskets and a less comfortable top grip (bruises in my palms as I type this after a long climb yesterday). If Jones just made the baskets nest as well as those do, they'd be best you can get.
By the way, the floating baskets are no gimmick. They increase the odds of a solid grip when hiking on inclines and keep the poles upright when planting them, which can prevent a lot of frustations with poles suddenly slipping out or tipping over (which can lead to various scenarios, including falls and loss).

So, 3 years later… I don't need new poles. And when I will, I'll be reaching for these, no doubt.

I have used a lot of different brands of poles. I like the reliability of these. The grip is top notch. The pole basket is also a favorite of mine. Great pole, great price.

Seems like fine quality so far. They are getting the job done.

Thoughtful design that functions well. I really like the extended grip. I wish they would breakdown a bit more for easier fit into my pack. Overall very happy with this purchase.

I've been touring with, beating on and traveling all over with these poles for years, and they've taken the use and abuse in stride. The floating basket matches the touring angle and keeps great traction on slopes; the telescoping mechanism is WAY more durable than my old collapsible poles; the extra-long grips are comfy, even on steeper boot packs; and the ice scraper grip is super handy when snow and ice starts to accumulate on the topsheet. Love them!!

Overall I really like them, good design and sturdy. One thing I dont like is when they are in carry mode the plastic spacer at the end of the pole seems a little too small and the pole wants to open up unless I add a bit of tape. Either the clamp is too tight to fully open up the pole or it cant stay in carry mode safely. Just need the tolerance on that spacer and resize…

I got these from a local Jones dealer to replace my 6 year old REI Carbon Flash 3 section poles that seem to be made by the same manufacturer as these Talons, Komperdell. The locking system, strap, and grip shape are nearly identical (plus they’re made in Austria, dead giveaway).

Anyway, the bottom section of these, like my old REI poles, doesn’t stay closed unless the clamp tension is adjusted tighter than comfortable to the point where the clamp fully opened doesn’t allow the section to fully extend to the line. And I don’t mean that when collapsed you can pull on the basket and open it, it literally falls down without any force. Very disappointing on brand new poles, and frankly a safety issue when I crash and they extendo patronus on my back (I strap them to the outside of my pack, not folded inside).

They also scratch themselves up when collapsing, even with the clamp fully open at factory tightness, for both sections not just the bottom one. Aside from marring the pretty finish, I worry this will gouge and weaken the metal. Probably not a real safety concern but does make you think.

Otherwise they’re nice poles and the hard nose on the grips are a welcome upgrade so I can stop bending over to flip my bindings. The long grips are awesome too.

Wish they were just slightly smaller folded so the don't stick out too much on a pack coming down. The locking mechanism doesn't lock when they are folded so the need to be very secure to the packs they don't open up. Otherwise they are not too heavy and extremely sturdy so as long as they stand up, the other gripes are manageable, time will tell.

Works like a charm.
