I’m really disappointed with my experience with the Jones Hovercraft splitboard. I had high expectations based on their reputation, but the board I received had serious quality issues right out of the box.
The biggest problem is that the board does not clip together tightly in ride mode. Even with the clips adjusted as tight as possible, the two halves don’t lock up properly. There are visible gaps along the center seam where the sides don’t even touch, which causes each half of the board to flex independently. That completely defeats the purpose of a splitboard and makes it feel unstable and low quality compared to other brands I’ve ridden.
What’s especially frustrating is that the board actually looks like a really fun shape to ride. I was genuinely excited to get it out in the backcountry, but because of the construction issues, I never really got the chance to find out how it performs.
I reached out to Jones about the issue in January, and after a couple of months of going back and forth, I was told I would receive a replacement in March. March came and went, and now in April I’m being told they only have “B-grade” replacements available, so I won’t get a proper replacement until next winter when the 2027 boards come out. That’s essentially an entire lost season, which is unacceptable for a brand at this price point.
On top of that, the warranty process itself is incredibly frustrating. They require you to go through the shop you purchased from as a middleman, which slows everything down significantly and makes communication more complicated than it needs to be. It feels outdated and inefficient.
At this point, I would strongly recommend that anyone considering a Jones splitboard take a close look at the construction before purchasing and seriously consider other brands. There are companies out there producing splitboards that lock together solidly and feel like a single board in ride mode, which is exactly what you should expect.
Overall, between the poor build quality and the drawn-out, inconvenient warranty process, I can’t recommend this board. For something this expensive, I expected much better quality control and customer support.
