Details

Shape & profile

A snowboard's outline defines many of its characteristics, from how it turns or floats in powder to its performance riding switch. Shape affects everything from the width and taper of the nose and tail, to the position of the stance relative to the board's center.

Shape image

[Shape]

Directional

A directional outline with a longer nose, shorter tail and setback stance to optimize float, maneuverability and edge power. Designed for riders who prioritize performance on groomers and in the backcountry over park riding.

[Taper]

Low Tapered

A subtle taper that aids directional performance but keeps the ride feeling balanced and dynamic on piste and resort terrain. Popular with riders who like to carve the resort or push freestyle in the backcountry, without giving up versatility on the powder days. Any shape with a taper of less than 10mm between the nose and tail.

3D Contour Base

Shape image

Surf-inspired shaping for next-level performance.

Inspired by the rounded bottom contours of surfboards, 3D Contour Bases are designed to make every run smoother and every turn more effortless by reducing the drag of the board tips. 3D Contour Bases enhance glide and improve float, helping you ride faster and with better flow. Learn more

[3d_pr0file]

Medium 3D Contour Base

3D Contour Base tuned for all-terrain featuring 4mm of spoon bevel in the nose and 0-4mm of spoon bevel in the tail. Spoon bevel starts just before the contact points.

How it works

Riding flat
Riding flat

When riding flat, the spoon bevel on the edges is not engaged, but it does help smoothly deflect snow away from the nose of the board.

Turn initiation
Turn initiation

As you begin to make a turn, the spoon bevel helps you smoothly roll the board on to your egde with less friction and edge drag.

Mid turn
Mid turn

In the middle of a turn, camber and Traction Tech keep you locked onto your egde in the center of the board while the spoon bevel reduces the "plow effect" of your nose and tail edges.

Don’t Buy

I purchased my Frontier this summer, and on my first outing, the right ski broke under the boot less than 15 minutes into the hike.

Contacted the retailer, who contacted Jones.

Despite the 2 + 1 warranty on this product, Jones claims it was user error, which it was not. I was following my buddy on a Salomon spilt, and his gear didn’t break.

I can’t believe that Jeremy would put his name on this gear.

This company is a disgrace to the snowboard industry.

Hi Bern,

I am incredibly sorry to hear about the break on your first tour and the frustration regarding your warranty claim. I am going to look into the details of your claim with our quality control team to better understand the situation and see how we can make this right.

I wish I got the 158. It would have made my life a good bit easier in powder. The online size check for my weight and height want so spot on

Hi Ben,

We appreciate the honest feedback regarding the sizing guide. We're sorry to hear the 158 would have been a better fit for your powder missions; we are constantly looking at our size charts to make them as accurate as possible for every rider's weight and height.

Wonderful Board

For my beginnings in splitboarding I opted for the Jones Frontier as a board. Never disappointed with my Jones products. Once again charmed by the quality of the board for my beginnings in this sport.

Great board, lots of flex

Great board, lots of flex in comparison to other boards I’ve ridden. Went a size lower and it’s so agile, a good amount of pop and the edge holds so well. Got the Jones pro skins to go with it and they were amazing, even on crusty/crunchy snow.

Perfect Split for All Riders

Ive ridden the Frontier solid for several years and was very excited to ride the split version. The board has a nice mid flex that's playful when your riding low angle dad turns but ridged enough to point ‘er out of the apron of a steep chute. The Karakoram clips hold the split solid, and the 3d base gives the board great float on deeper days. I would recommend for beginner back country shredders and seasoned riders alike.

Hooked!

Was definitely hesitant snagging this board due to the rocker profile. Glad I went with it. Excellent nose pop in deep pow, handles steeps with ease, and drops have been so much fun with a bit more flex. Done two tours so far about 10 miles each in length. Weight is great and have really enjoyed climbing with it. Massive upgrade from what I’ve been riding the last ten years! Love the board, great build, and stoked to be part of the Jones fam!

Frontier Feeds on Trees

While my board finder results all pointed to the Solution and my eyes flirted with the Mind Expander, fire sale pricing on this 161w Frontier caused me to commit to it. So far I've found the flex in the board to hold a welcome responsiveness while finding my way through tight trees in the Pacific Northwest. The directional twin tip shape is helpful for the occasional need to ride switch in tight spots as well as providing a stable platform for skinning on long approaches. The top sheet took on a few more scratches than I would have expected in a recent skimo race, but is in otherwise great shape and I look forward to many more tours on the Frontier.

Awesome Board

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Just the right amount of flex so that it turns super easily whilst still giving superb edge confidence on the crusty stuff. This rides much better than my normal board so have taken to using it even on non split boarding days.

Amazing board!

This board is phenomenal. I was worried after having a Solution that this would feel too soft, but it charges just as hard and is a little more playful.

First time with a split

First time with a split board very happy I went with the jones. Love the weight and flexibility to have some serious fun in the pow with out being held back. Shape is definitely a help with being flexible as you ride and still able to turn hard and carve the edges at the groomers.

First timer!

I guess it’s a good board. Got a few compliments already and only had it a couple weeks with just one session on the hill. It’s my first board and got it to skin instead of snowshoeing again like I’ve been doing the past few seasons. A ski/skinner I ran into on the mountain in the backcountry told me about this stuff (skinning) last season. I’m thinking about getting skis too since I had a lesson the other day and kinda liked that as well as this board. I’m pretty sure this thing will last many years and I’m basically going to get a season resort pass now to hone in some skills. Yesterday, I skinned the resort once then just used the lift or/and hiked up in my boots. I got my skins from Jones too. The clip in top shelf ones that piece together sweet with this board! Had no issues transitioning from skinner to snowboard and vice versa. I mostly fell a lot, but that won’t last long.

Great board, Karakorum clips can be improved

This board rides great. My only complaints are with the Karakorum clips. In split mode they don't say closed, so they jingle around and make noise. They also loosen over time and must be re-adjusted to stay tight in ride mode.

Great board

I had great time riding it this year. It has privided all it promised.
It has nice flow in deep pow and also nice grip on hard gromed slope. The pop of the board is great and on the landing board is very predictable which gives me great confidence, which makes me to try more staff and have even more fun. Its the board i was looking for.

This board is so easy

This board is so easy to ride. It is also the easiest turning board I’ve ever had. I love it and have no complaints. I have so far only used it to skin up my local hill here in Le Tour, but I am looking to exploring more next season.

This board is the perfect

This board is the perfect balance of float and response in the backcountry. It swims you through the deep powder and can still turn on a dime for steezemuffin slashes and tree avoidance. Guaranteed to have a great time.

This was my first split board and so happy with my purchase, was used for a season in Scotland. Really easy board to set up and ride, lots of fun in soft snow.

Hi there! I ended up

Hi there!

I ended up selling my Jones board this year and buying a Cardiff board. The Jones board felt very sluggish compared to the only other board I’ve ridden (which is 10 years old at this point). Even after waxing, the board seemed very slow. I also bought a used hovercraft this past season and had the same issue. Additionally, I never loved the center clips on the board. They didn’t seem to hold the board together well.

I love you guys as a brand and think you are doing great things, but the board just wasn’t for me. I wish I would have had the opportunity to buy a solution last year (but they sold out too dang quick!)

See you on the skin track,
Eric
